New Principal Announced For White Bluffs Elementary

A veteran school administrator trained in student and family support will join Richland School District as principal in the 2021-22 school year.

Brian Ploghoft, who most recently served as an elementary principal in the Astoria School District in Oregon, will be principal of White Bluffs Elementary. Meanwhile, the Early Learning Center will have new leadership from Julie McDougall, who is coming from the Yakima School District where she most recently was the Assistant Director of Early Learning.

Ploghoft has been in Astoria since 2007, where he also has held leadership roles in trauma-informed care and Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports. He started as a teacher in 1994 in the Culdesac School District in Idaho and has also served as a testing coordinator, coach, technology director and online instructor among other roles. Ploghoft earned his bachelor’s in elementary education from Lewis Clark State College and a master’s in Educational Leadership from University of Idaho.

Ploghoft replaces White Bluffs Principal Gail Ledbetter who retired at the end of the 2020-21 school year.
