What Families Need To Know About The New Elementary Boundaries

RSD is moving forward with preparations to open Elementary #11 with its own school community at the start of the 2022-23 school year. This will directly impact students, families and staff at five of the district’s elementary schools—Badger Mountain, Orchard, Tapteal, White Bluffs and William Wiley—and district leaders want everyone to know what to expect through the transition.

Attendance Boundaries & Family Notifications

The Richland School Board approved the new elementary attendance boundaries at its Nov. 23 regular meeting. These boundaries will be in effect beginning with the 2022-23 school year. Schools will begin notifying families if their home falls within a new boundary area in January.

An interactive map of the new boundaries is available. An official printed boundary map will be available at Badger Mountain, Orchard, Tapteal, White Bluffs and William Wiley elementary schools. The district’s bus routing program, ELink, will also reflect how the new boundaries affect which school a student is assigned to in the coming weeks.

Transfers

The student transfer process opens Feb. 1, 2022. Families affected by the new elementary boundaries and wanting to keep their child at their current school must apply for a transfer. Learn more about the transfer process. The district will make its best effort to accommodate transfer requests resulting from the boundary changes.

Special Education

Special Education administrators are identifying how the new elementary boundaries may impact programs at specific schools. Families of students receiving special education services will be notified of any changes as needs for each school are determined.

Elementary #11 Staffing

The principal for Elementary #11 will be announced by the district in January. Staff positions will be identified in February based on student enrollment with hiring continuing through the spring and summer. The principal will establish a leadership team to assist with planning for the school’s opening.

Elementary #11 Naming, Mascot & Colors

District staff will support Elementary #11’s leadership team in selecting potential names for the school in the late winter and early spring of 2022. The Richland School Board will make the final determination on the school’s name. The school’s leadership team will also poll its community about the school’s mascot and colors in early 2022.

Further questions about these topics and others related to elementary boundary changes can be directed to your school’s principal.
